 Feedback from the office

Updates from ABRI

The Agricultural Business and Research Institute (ABRI) have been hard at work developing a brand-new program that will replace both the current ILR2 program used by the office and Internet Solutions used online by members. The new integrated program has been named “BreedLogic”.

The office has been attending monthly workshops where the ABRI development team has been providing feedback and updates on the developmental progress. They have informed us that if everything goes according to plan, the Simbra Cattle Breeders’ Society of Southern Africa will be transitioned over to BreedLogic by the 3rd quarter of 2025.

Genetic Conditions Display on Internet Solutions

If an animal has been tested for genetic conditions and the results been loaded on the database, the results will now display on Internet Solutions when you search for the animal.

Please note that currently only genetic conditions from Neogen are loaded onto the database. We are working with the relevant role players to receive the genetic conditions in the necessary format from other service providers.

Please do not hesitate to contact the office should you require assistance in interpreting this display.

SNP Genotype Status Display on Internet Solutions

If an animal has been SNP genotyped and the raw data has been loaded on the database, it will now display on Internet Solutions along with the sample number associated with the profile.

Please do not hesitate to contact the office should you require assistance in interpreting this display.

SASAS Student Industry Day

Ms. Jody Young and Ms. Charné Visser represented the Simbra Cattle Breeders’ Society of Southern Africa alongside the LRF at the 2024 SASAS Student Industry Day. The morning was filled with presentations from various Animal Science industry representatives. The speakers addressed final year students from several higher education institutes about the various employment avenues of pursuit within the industry as well as what those specific sectors are comprised of. After lunch, the networking began. 3rd and final year students were given opportunity to visit all the different booths, where the morning’s speakers and their colleagues were set up. It was a pleasure to speak to the students about the ins and outs of working in the beef cattle stud breeding industry.
