Feedback on the UFS course

In May 2024, the Simbra Society presented a beginner’s course for the students of the University of the Free State (UFS) at the university experimental farm and at Mr Chris Richter’s farm outside of Bloemfontein.

The first day of the course began with a theory session on both the genetic and phenotypic aspects of cattle selection. Thereafter, the attendees went to the farm to begin the practical session focusing on the phenotypic aspects of male selection.

The second day kickstarted with the theory test followed by a practical session on the phenotypic aspects of female selection. The course ended off with a practical test and an interactive discussion where students had the opportunity to engage with what they had learned throughout the course.

Many thanks are extended to Mr Chris Richter who hosted the students for the practical sessions and for generously sponsoring refreshments and lunch on both days.
